Term 4, Week 6 Assessment
This graph shows the progress in reading for students in my class.
I made a graph in July after assessing the reading level of almost all of the students. After lockdown some students did not have very good attendance as they were kept at home, so for 2 of these students their reading level was estimated.
This new graph was made after reading assessments done in week 6 of Term 4. Again attendance plays a factor in accuracy. 2 students didn't attend school that week and a few other needed to be retested. The more recent assessments were done using PM Benchmark and where possible I tried to gauge the student's instructional level. Since July I have had a few students leave and a few students join my class. The newer students are numbered above 20.
The graph shows progress after one and a half terms of reading. In total these students had 15 weeks of reading groups. In Term 3 they read with a variety of kaiako and in Term 4 they were reading independently, or with me. I was focussed on providing tasks related to what they had read and encouraging a variety of reading responses. I knew from doing Probe 2 assessment (reading age based) at the end of Term 3, these older and / or more capable students needed to build their comprehension and vocabulary.Writing Assessment uses the Progression framework.
If you compare the data from June 2020 to the data entered in Week 6 of Term 4 you can see the progress for individual students (highlighted in yellow). The 2 anomalies are pink, I believe these are from when I originally over estimated these 2 students based on only a few samples.
